I have been given a choice of Internal Medicine or Med Surg at a local Hospital. Coming from LTC I am not sure what differences are with these 2 floors. any suggestions??? PLEASE:confused:

med surg would prolly be more interesting ..... Internal meds would be more of a snooze ..... disease process pts like renal failure, diabetes, sicklecell, lupus pts ..... that is my opinion I would rather have surgical pts mixed with disease pts on medsurg it would keep it more interesting and keep your skills sharp..... more variety......

Gotta wholeheartedly agree with you, Katy...go for the med/surg since you've been doing LTC for a time. It will definitely sharpen those nursing skills...in a hurry! :rotfl: Best of luck to you, Kayzee! :kiss
Thanks for your quick response. I'm picking med-surg. I appreciate your input. I know there is so much to learn, but am looking forward to it. Am very excited about the change.

I'm an old ICU nurse, but I paid my dues with 2 years on med-surg first, and I'm immensely glad I did! I learned organizational skills there that I never would have learned anywhere else. (I also did LTC, which can be very fulfilling as well). Those nurses keep lots of balls in the air. I tell me students to do their time on med-surg rather than going immediately into the specialty units (some actually listen to me!). Best of luck!!!
