I have been offered a LPN Charge nurse position at a small SNF near my home. The shift is from 6pm to 6am, two on and two off schedule. I got the message that she would like to hire me, I wasn't home until evening, so I need to call her today.

I was also offered a flexible part-time position with my former Assisted Living. They really want me to return to work there. This is day shift, yet it changes at a moments notice and I often would work from 8am to 9pm, due to a med aide calling in sick on the evening shift, or a resident emergency. Both jobs pay the same.

My former boss at the Assisted Living knows that we will eventually move to Tennessee, after the house sells, which could be in a month or two or not until next summer, due the changes happening in the housing market.

Right now, I feel like we are living in limbo, but I need to work until we move. What would you do? :uhoh21:

Take whichever job you will be at peace.

Think of your family.

The flexible part time job sounds like there would be

no guarantee of hours. If that is important, it would

be a factor in deciding.

Sounds like you have a lot on your plate with an upcoming move. If there is a possiblility of a move within a few months, do you really want to be learning the ins and outs of a new postion, or would you rather go with what you know?

I would accept the charge nurse position because it seems to offer stable, steady hours. But you know to go with your gut instinct when it comes to selecting a new place to work. You stated that you need to work until your home ends up selling, so it would be prudent to accept one of the two offers presented to you. Good luck with whatever you decide.

I accepted the nursing home position, because it is close to home, the staff is stable and have worked there for many years. Everyone has been very nice so far. I have worked night shift before and occasionally 12 hour shifts, so I hope I can adjust easier this time, but I do like the two on two off schedule. The pay isn't bad, $19.50 an hour and they have excellent benefits. I start on Tuesday, I'll have orientation on dayshift, then orientation on nights after that. It's a small facility with 28 residents. I feel I made the right choice.

If our house sells, I'll be sure to give a two week notice. If our house doesn't sell before the end of October, my husband already knows, that I plan to stay here in Oregon, until next spring. I hate moving during the holidays. All my family lives here in Oregon. He's okay with that. Did this paragraph make sense??? LOL.

It's wonderful to hear that you accepted the charge nurse position. I hope things work out for the best. Congratulations!
