What does a nurse manager do---LTC?

Is this a desirable job? What does it involve? I was offered a FT nurse manager position and a nurse supervisor position. The nurse manager position is salary (not a bad one) with every third weekend 'on call'. The supervisor position is hourly and there's no on call. Also, it's 2nd shift.

I have never been in management, so I'm not too sure what all it involves and if it would be a good fit for me.

Any LTC nursing managers out there who can tell me what a day in your work life is like?

It depends on the facility,our unit managers are responsible for administrative and clinical aspects of their units.Scheduling and payroll,annual reviews and discipline and following up on the units to make sure all policy and procedures are followed on all shifts....Putting out fires both set by employees,residents and family..It's a24/7 job.......It's pretty daunting.
