Want to quit after 3 months!

Any advice please... I work in a private practice office now and hate it. I always could press on and develop myself through tough times. But this is terrible. I come from dialysis background and have not been in the hospital yet which is where I really want to be. The training I thought I was going to get (ambulatory procedure RN) didn't happen, I was pushed to the back burner and mostly do computer charting, paperwork, pre and post BP. I have few friends, but it is very clickish and they are cut throat. I've been thrown under the bus quite a few times and its getting worse. I want to quit and take a hospital job. I am worried about how to come forward and say it to my supervisor and facility administrator, they are not too friendly. I am also worried about how this will look on my resume and affect future employment. I know I am a good RN and can learn and adapt easy, but this job isn't working out.

I'm sorry you are having a hard time. I wouldn't quit until you have another job lined up.

Thanks... I still work PRN at dialysis. Currently getting calls for possible interviews from a hospital. But I feel like if I don't leave I will get fired because I am being blamed for errors I didn't do.

There's nothing wrong with approaching your employer with a professionally done resignation letter and stating that, "It's just not working out," without assigning fault to either side. It's called a graceful exit and will serve you well, especially if you think you are going to get booted soon.

Having another job lined up would be optimal, but if you have to explain to future employers that the job "just wasn't a good fit because the opportunities were not as challenging as I had hoped," then so be it. It's obviously not a good fit, so be firm and fearless, and let your supervisor know where you stand.

I hope you get your hospital job soon!
