WANT INFO ON WSSU Accelerated BSN

Nurses General Nursing

Published

I am interested in learning more from current and graduate students of the accelerated program at WSSU in Winston Salem, NC. How intense was it/is it? How are you graded? Describe some of the things you did/doing? I'm a lil nervous about IVs and drawing blood so I was wondering if you got to do it in the program and were you nervous? The sight of blood doesn't bother me but I can see my hands shaking now. LOL!!! I plan to begin taking the pre reqs in the summer and see how that goes first but I am definitely interested in nursing and have always been. Any info is appreciated!

check out (search) the nc forum here, there's a few topics about the wssu program.

I am a new grad RN (not from WSSU) but in Charlotte- did clinicals at CMC which is large like Wake Baptist, there's an IV team and phlebotomists/lab techs- you won't even do that type of skill, we barely covered it in school and I have never done either (except drawing from central lines which are already in place), if that helps- don't let it hold you back from applying!

Thanks Itsthedude! I checked that link out; however, I would still like to hear from some people that current students or graduates to learn more about their experiences.

Thanks Celclt, I'm going to start pre reqs this summer. I just didn't want to fail nursing school if I had problems with blood draws and IVs. I am pretty good with studying. I have a BS in business management and MBA. I have always wanted to be nurse and I bored out of my mind and unchallenged in my current job. Haven't been able to progress the way that I thought I would either. I did the family while I was in undergrad and didn't get work experience until about a year after I graduated which made it difficult to get a job that I had the education for. I have ended up working in jobs where I am over qualified for. I'm getting older so I decided that I should switch to a career that I would find challenging with growth potential and something that I have always had an interest in. My friends always call me Dr. Henderson because I am always reading something related to health and disease. Enough about me, how is your new job going???
