Traveling nurse or Nurse in one state?

Nurses General Nursing

Published

Hi all. Just recently passed the NCLEX-RN exam...i want to work here in Boston with my other family members, but my dad and sibling live in Las vegas. My dad told me that i wouldnt surrender my license in a single state...he said i should become a traveling nurse just in case i want to work soomewhere else (i plan to work where some of my relatives are located). My dad brought this up coz he knew i like it here in boston but he wanted to have me where he is.

What are the advatages and disadvantages of a traveling nurse? Will it be hard to adpat froom one hospital policy to another? I totally have no clue.

Thanks!

I dont know of any travel companies that'll hire you before you have AT THE MINIMUM a full year under your belt. And thats if alls you want to do as a travel nurse is M/S and nursing home. If you are in critical care, its much longer than that.

I am a traveler and had only 7 months of experience in my field which is dialysis, when I started with my agency. Though I do have years of experience in other areas. It will depend on the agency and their needs but definitely you will need some experience. And as for the pros and cons, it's totally up tp you, your personality and adaptability. And another thing get with a recruiter that's going to be right for you and one who will listen to you. One size does not fit all. I wish the best for you in whatever you decide to do.
