To the creator of all nurses I want to say thank you!!! I recently graduated in May and have been working as an RN since June. I was in over my head on the floor i was on and i felt unsafe and like my liscense was at risk(feelings i did not tell my coworkers). I asked my manager can i transfer to another floor. At my institution one is to work on a floor a year before they transfer,I waited three months. My manager granted my early transfer now i can not get a job. I am starting to wonder if she is black balling me. I wonder if when managers call about me does she say negative things, but I can not accuse her of this.

However, I digress, i want to thank the creator because during this journey to become a nurse I have had soooo many feelings. Most of which are not favorable of nursing. When i would ask my peers how they feel about nursing there response was always," i love it!" I started to feel alone. I felt this way until i found all nurses.com and the feeling of knowing your not alone is such a relief. I have not been to work since sept.27th. My bank account is fastly dewindling. i am considering taking a non-nursing job because i need to support my self.I am not giving up on nursing.. i just need a job. I worked so hard to get here and I want to make it work. I sometimes think nursing is not for me. but how can i say that and i have been one for only four months? I became a nurse because God wanted me to be and with him on my side things will be alright.I have faith that eventually, nursing will be better. but until then it is sure hard.

I have a question, why do you not have a job now? You stated that you asked to transfer and your manager granted you an early transfer so wouldn't that mean that you just switched units? And if you did not have a job on another unit then why did you leave your job? Just doesn't make sense to me.

In response to the above poster:

My manager felt that since i did not wish to stay on the floor past my orientation that she would be wasting the budget on a nurse that plans to leave. After, she granted me the option to transfer i began looking for a unit to transfer to. I have not been excepted to a unit as of yet.:wink2:

I know that there are plenty of jobs in our area for RNs...just check out BJC, SSM, and Tenet websites. They can all be slow about getting the ball rolling with actually getting you hired and onto orientation. And all three can be a pain in the butt as far as internal transfers go, with people not hearing anything at all back after putting in requests. This has been a huge issue at both my facitily and my sister's...between she and I (her and me? not sure of the grammar here lol) we work for two of the three big organizations I mentioned, so I know of what I speak.

There are also always plenty of ads for LTC in the area for RNs, although I'm not sure if you'd be interested in them.

Non-nursing jobs in this area that pay well (which I personally would be willing to do) seem to be few and far between.

Keep in mind that the first year is generally stressful and a huge adjustment for everyone. It can take years before you find your little niche or floor that you fit in perfectly on. Give it time and don't give up hope.

I agree with mama D. You have a lot of options in the area. And if no one gets back to you call HR to put a move on it.

Thanks for the explanation. Now I am up to speed. Man does that suck. I sure hope you find something soon and that you get to be happy.

Good luck!
