Thank you very much. I'm a new nurse and the other week I had the worst shift I've ever had: inappropriately heavy patient assignment, all of my patients were unstable, needy/very worried families who needed a lot of attention, and had to call the rapid response team on two of my patients (once at change of shift). I didn't eat, drink, or pee for 14 hours. I have a very strong personality and not much bothers me, but this time I cried on the way home. The next day I dreaded going into work. But when I got there, one of my patient's family members who I had on that horrible shift (who I had also been taking care of for months as he slowly declined) came and specifically found me to thank me for everything I had done for him and told me that they would never forget me. As a new grad, that was my first "thank you" from a patient's family and it meant so much to me as I have grown very attached to that particular patient. This reminded me of why I became a nurse...all the stress was well worth that one thank you.
