I have been recently crowned the Health Nurse at a Air Ambulance co.. With that I have to start a wellness program. Is there any advice othere than a Gym discount plan?

Well if it is for employees and they eat there start offering healthy meals. I work nights and we are offered fried foods! Is there any room at the facility for a gym so employees can use it on their breaks? Stop smoking programs. Weight loss programs, stress management, etc.

Good luck!

Nutrition classes, blood pressure screenings, cholesterol screenings, blood glucose screenings, if there is a massage therapy school in your area the students will sometimes offer free massages for practice. Some hospitals have breast cancer and testicular cancer education nurses who will provide education on monthly self exams and guidelines for clinical exams. Since herbal supplements are a hot topic, a class about the pros and cons, interactions, etc. about herbal supplements might be a good one.

All of the above, and then some... Look at your employee population demographics and work with that information as well... Age and gender specific programs. Lunch and learn information sessions work well to educate employees about their health risk factors. Post short information sheets in the bathroom stalls, and on bulletin boards, that target the big issues... Almost anywhere you go those will be smoking, blood pressure, cholesterol, and weight. There are so many things that you can include, it really depends on how much time you have to work on the program, and what kind of budget you have been allowed. The key is to develop the program around what the employees want and need to improve their health.

Good luck,

George
