Southeastern LA Students - How are y'all doing?

My husband and I are fine, no damage except for spending all afternoon cleaning up the yard. Anyhow, I write this thinking about my fellow students who fared much worse and are expected to return to school on Monday (the major schools in New Orleans are all slated to re-open Monday). With the toll merely evacuating took on us, I can't even begin to think of studying. I can't imagine how those Gustav affected feel - and now we have to worry about Ike too. Many students travel up here from lower lying areas to attend school and I worry. It's not that I want more time off from school, it's that I worry about my fellow classmates who may not have been so fortunate.

I know most probably don't have Internet available, but if you know someone or are a student still evacuated, please know that I am thinking of you (as I'm sure many others in this community are also)

rapides parish here...some damage to houses, three deaths, two bad fires including a community playhouse and [avoyelles parish] a historic building in bunkie

Thanks for reading my rant CHATSDALE. Sorry to hear there's a bit more damage your way.

Seems that most of the student body will be able to return tomorrow and that's why schools intend to open. I guess at these times, one can only take things one day at a time and keep family first. True as that may be, I still feel for my fellow students who might not be able to make it back for the semester.

I pray that all will be able to get through this and on to school. I know it is hard for those that was in the storms path, but prayers are with you. God Bless All Of You.

It seems as though there are many nurses from the New Orleans area on this site. I just joined and would like to talk to others from NOLA. Have any of you read the stuff on other forums about volunteer horror stories? One person said, "LOUISIANA!" and I was offended by that.

By the way, I also pray for all in the path of any of the hurricanes, including my own family, who live in Lafourche Parish. The storms seem to be stronger and meaner these last few years. I heard on the news tonight that the levees broke in Chauvin, which is near Houma.

I'm an RN, went to school at good ol' Charity, back in the Diploma days.

Let's chat!
