Should I continue to be a Nurse?

Hi Everyone ( To whoever may care to read)

I am on my 2nd to the last semester of my Health Administration ( ONE more prereq) and I will having my last 5 classes, each of them last 9 weeks. I can't do 2 classes at a time because each of them last 5 classes are a prereqs for each of them.

I took this Associate Degree because I just moved out from my former partner and have a son. I took this Degree because, I don't want to just stay home after my current work and take care of my son. In short, I want to do something with my life. So I decided of instead of just waiting for the right time... I want to do something with my life.

I always been going to school, but always end up changing my major. First was med assnt, then I changed it, and decided to be a Sonographer, until I had my son, I cant attend and go back to school because I need to be on the campus. To be exact, I only took just prereqs.

When I finally moved out of my ex-partner, I took this degree all online, I'm almost done, then, I volunteered at my local hospital to get my foot on the door. No one told me to do this, but with the reason of getting hired and of course gaining that experience in working at a hospital setting.

I had few bumps when I was taking this program, my life wasnt easy after all, so whenever i was stressing or some problem arises, I would take a break. Then, now my son is a little big bigger and I can concentrate more now, and I really wanted to make a difference.

When I was younger, I would I always wanted to be a nurse, but then I thought those are for smart people only, thats why I always stir my way from it. When I volunteered at the hospital, I saw what they do, kinda shadow and see them. I had this feeling that, I want to do that and wanted to provide better future for my son.

But hey! I'm not going to be a hypocrite! Nurses makes a good amount of money and it will secure me and my son's future! When I was looking at the prereqs, and I was soo happy that most of the classes I took can be credited to nursing program! I just need most Science, such as BIO A&P I,II MICRO, CHEM, STATS!.

basically, if I wanted to get started i can start now!

A little background, when I was taking my Med assnt, and some other prereqs on other colleges, I'm geetting A's and B's but when it comes to MATH! I WOULD FAIL!, if I can pass this Semester MAth WHICH IS the college Algebra, and STats, I can fight hard for those classes ( Science classes) I did it before, and I know Ic an fight hard to pass it!

But then, all my classes are passing except for MATH!

IT MADE me kinda feel like loosing hope because of it, and I'll be honest, I feel like not pursuing Nursing because of math. I tried watching the Dosage Calculation, I can follow the instruction just right, and the videos, but wen it comes to those college algebra, it makes me not go anymore... I can pass other health related classes in my degree right now except for math I'm struggling

I dont know, if volunteering and making me feel I wanted to try to be a nurse was a calling for me, because I see it face to face what they do and I wanted to do it. Its just the math hold me back..

Should I do it or not, prolly a sign of not continuing it?

You can get tutored in math. Speak to your academic advisor about it.

Go to your local college of choice and have their advisor look over what you have and what you need. Then take one course and see how it goes.

Another thought process is that if your local high school has a honor society club, the club requires a certain number of volunteer hours to continue to be a member of said club. (Which the kids are into for college applications/acceptances). Talk to the academic advisor of the local honor club. Being tutored by an honor high school student can really work well for you.

Finally, online there's a bunch of tutoring available. You tube it if you have to. Once you get it, you will get it. It is a matter of what you have vs. what you need in medication calculations. I don't like the "x" and being a language based learner it confuses me. But once I saw a few and did a few, it clicked.

Definitely get a math tutor. The dosage calc math has not been incredibly difficult for some, but there are students who will fail because of it. My program has a policy where if you don't pass the med calc test with a 90%+, you are removed from the program completely and need to reapply. Even if you're almost ready to graduate.
