Return to BSN after 20 years

need advice , trying to go back to school to get bsn graduated over 20 + yrs ago ,was not the best college student gpa 2.49 { always did well in nursing course and clinical} most programs want gpa 2.5 ,what does an old dog have to do to get a second chance to get accepted into a bsn program help ,currently working in critical care setting and have been for over 15yrs .

I checked and indeed the RN to BSN program I attended does require a 2.50 http://www.fhchs.edu/academics/academicbulletins/browsable/nursing/bachelorsciencedegreenursing/admission probably because their NLN approved. They do require references though, and the references might throw you over the edge.

They might realize that you are a completely different person now and should be given a chance.

Their might be a course or two you can take to bring it up. Also their might look at only courses they require and get your GPA from what they transfer in.

My advise would be to talk to the advisors at the schools your interested in and explain your dilemma, but don't give up.

BSN completion programs typically involve some general ed courses required to meet the college/university's general baccalaureate degree requirements -- you could investigate what non-nursing courses you're going to need (if any), and go ahead and start taking those -- that way, you'd not only be getting those courses out of the way, you could bring up your GPA (you will be getting good grades in those courses, right? :)) Since you're so close to the "magic" 2.5 already, it wouldn't be hard to get there.

Thanks guys for the words of encouragement. Turns out after contacting the admissions dept they were not terribly concerned about the 2.49 . they would have been able to "over look" the 0.01 differance. But they felt that getting 4{C-} "s in the following classes were unacceptable A/P 1 . intro to Psych/Soc , eng 1. They wanted me to take them over ,, Well those classes were from 1981 and I have been working in the ED for 18 yrs as staff, preceptor and relief charge. I passed my Boards on the 1st attempt . Therefore I can not see where this this would benefit me . So I will stay the course as an ADN and continue to provide the same level of nursing excellence that I have over the past 24yrs .Thanks for listening! I understand that colleges have standards and criteria they must meet. This will not provide me with meeting the needs of my patients any differant than I am doing at present.
