Hi all-have any of you ever been written up or given a verbal warning after a needle stick? I have NEVER heard of such a thing until today.A co-worker was given a verbal warning for "unsafe nursing practice" after a needle stick...What's up with this?

yes its done in many hospitals for 2 reasons, in order to remind the whole staff of what could happen if.... and also to help molify the insurance guys that the hospital is doing something about needle sticks

Specializes in ICU, telemetry, LTAC.

Yes, but warning an employee not to engage in unsafe nursing (i.e., don't stick yourself again), when not providing the proper safe equipment is not "doing something." It's diddling around and I wonder what OSHA would say? or JCAHO?
