Does anyone have any creative and fun ways to encourage and enforce good turning and repositioning in a long term care facility. I want to do something that is fun and really gets all staff involved. Any ideas or thoughts woul;d be welcome.

I have noticed that the best way to make sure everyone gets turned properly is to have enough staff on the floor! It is not possible for one CNA to turn Jane Doe who is 300 pounds, without shearing or unproper position. If you do not have staffing issues, then I agree with an occasional reward for a good job done. Once we had a little contest, the nurse on the floor would check resident positions during med pass, then go back in a couple hours, the hall/unit with everyone turned and repositioned received pizza for their lunch. We also hid sm notes under pillows that said "good Job" etc, for a 10.00 bonus or something.

These are all really good ideas! ZuchRN, I'm glad you brought this topic up! I have 7 permanent CNAs on my floor and two of them need nudging. I think this is a great way to reward my AMAZING CNAs and to boost the not-so-amazing ones! I'm definitely going to try some of these!

I agree with the rest of the posters. As far as making it fun, some facilities will play a song over the PA when it's time to turn. something with a turn, move or roll theme.
