Hi Everyone,

I have read a lot of posts about there not being any jobs available. My school has a job website and on that site, there are a lot of listings for Sentara Healthcare which is in Virginia. I looks from the listings that they have a lot of jobs open and some of them will take new grads. You can find their website by typing in sentara on yahoo. I hope this info helps some of you looking for jobs.

this is just for virginia or all over? thanks for the post!

i am not sure if she's just referring to VA. Sentara is big here in hampton roads area in Virginia and yes they have numerous RN position openings and some are very open to new grads.

Specializes in Emergency.

Its odd that they say they are open to new grads. They just had a job fair and were turning new grads away at the door. They were making it very clear they were only speaking to experienced nurses. I felt bad for the new grads there, although they were nice about it, they let it be known there was no need for them at this time.

Also, even with turning the new grads away the job fair was packed! There was no shortage of experienced nurses looking for work. I guess thats why you can turn away new grads because you could fill your openings with RNs you dont have to pay to train.

**This was at Potomac though....North Virginia, it may be different in southern parts of the state.

Good thing I didn't go to the Potomac open house because I was going to drive from VA BEACH to attend! Yes I agree that is probably why they are not considering new grads because of the overwhelming experienced RN seeking for a position. Its also difficult to get positions in this area as well. I was lucky enough to recently land the floor that I Want as a new grad but it was rough getting there! In orientation the reminded me how "lucky" I was to get hired when they get over 95,000 apps a year and they only hire 4,000 per year. It's a very tough situation!

Before I was hired I attended a home health care open house. Eventhough they knew I didn't have experience they asked if I was interested In an RN position as a home health care coordinator, but I declined because I want to work on the floor. So to new grads, there are other RN positions that doesn't have to be on the floor, there are office positions too. Just another option...
