The view of a nursing error varies widely among nurses. What is your view of a nursing error?

I made a nursing error the other night- it was from pure laziness, I admit it. My 13 month old daughter woke up for her middle of the night snack- I brought her into bed with my hubby and I, and was too dang lazy to put her back in the crib, so she chug a lugged to her hearts content and I slept. That was my nursing error.

I will echo what everyone else has said....this is an impossible question to answer. I guess in its most simple terms "nurse error" is a mistake made be a nurse. Not trying to be a smarta**, but just trying to illustrate it can mean different things for everyone.

Some ideas: serious (perhaps fatal) med errors, minor med error (e.g. giving 325 mg of ASA instead of 324 mg), forgetting to get VS before discharging a pt, giving an NPO pt something to eat, shutting you finger in the med room door...and about 800,000+ other things.
