Nurse working for technical director Bias or jealousy?

Nurses General Nursing

Published

Has anyone else had experience working for a director who is not a nurse. I have experienced resistance and retaliatory comments when trying to disagree with my non-nursing director for processes and decisions I know are right. Working conditions seem to be getting worse. I am being micromanaged big time. Any suggestions on how to deal with this situation.

Been there, done that, no longer there, won't do it again.

Good Luck

I have requested several transfers out but none available yet. I will attain my BSN in 5 months so hopefully this will open doors for me.

Thanks

I'm on my 2nd nursing job and this is my 2nd one where my direct supervisor is not a nurse. I don't like it. They don't know what exactly we are doing and it seems they expect that you move heaven and earth because of the lack of understanding of nursing. My 1st boss was the worst because she would disagree with my judgement AND she would have the nerve to tell me I needed to call x dr about xyz pt and _______( request a med, request a test, etc) well her "nursing judgement" was not in agreement with mine... probably because she isn't a nurse.

Oh my solution to that was to call the dr's office and speak the the nurse. I would say My boss who isn't a nurse thinks that xyz pt needs __________ she told me I have to call and request this, I don't necessarily agree with her that the pt needs this... can you ask the dr? The nurse would usually chuckle and then when she would call back the dr would usually deny the request.

It was a waste of time, but I saw other nurses try to disagree and then they would be reprimanded if they refused to call the dr for her idiotic requests.
