Nre Trend in hiring?

Nurses General Nursing

Hi there, well I want to ask you all if you think this is the new trend or something new. I have been out of nursin for 4 yrs now and 2 weeks ago I went on my first interview in yrs. The interview went fine and the Dr. said I was the best qualified applicant and he was sure I would be the one to get the job...then he added that he didnt make the final decision...the nurses did. He said I and some of the other applicants would be asked to come back and spend some time with the nurses and if they liked me and chose me I would be hired. WHAT? That is obscene to me! ITs humiliating to put myself on the selling block, afraid I might say the wrong thing or not laugh at some joke. That would be fine if I were running for office but Im not . He has turned the hiring process into some sort of popularity contest. I rememeber working short on the floors and begging for more help. I didnt care if I just liked the nurse or not as long as they were qualified and took some of the load of the rest of us. In the workplace its not personal, its professional attitudes that matter. Or has that changed? So Im guessing that if one of the nurses has a friend apply that person will probably get it anyway. Anyway I am suppose to receive a call sometime next week and I am considering not going. I guess Im upset cause I really wanted this job (Its a low stress clinic job, not great pay but ok) but I dont think I should have to put myself through this. What do you all think?

And in my acceptance speech "I promise to end world hunger and bring world peace!"

Good luck from another shy one. When I worked for the local doc, there were some characters he hired that *I* surely would have liked to have "interviewed" first. He was a real sweetie.

I can understand where you're coming from to an extent, because I am shy, too.

I went through this kind of process for a job; it was presented as an opportunity for each of us to see how things would work, plus I could ask questions that I might not want to ask the nurse manager who did the first interview (she did not come in for the 2nd interview when I talked to staff). That was really good, because I did ask questions I would not have asked her and got very straight answers.
