NP starting aesthetic practice in Maryland

Nurses General Nursing

Published

Hi - I am an NP in Maryland and I am interested in starting my own aesthetic practice. I'm a bit overwhelmed on how to get started. Any advice or recommendations is MUCH appreciated. Here are a few questions...

- I need a business license, do I pick LLC or S-CORP?

- Do I need to file with the board of nursing ( I think MDs have to file with the board of physicians)?

- I was told that I will need a collaborating physician for malpractice however the state of Maryland does not require a CP to practice medicine. Does anyone have experience with this?

- I looked into ordering Botox from Allergan and they require a business address which cannot be a home address. I was planning on starting with a mobile business therefore my house would be my business address :( Any recommendations?

Thanks!!

Hi new to the site but thought I would reach out and provide some insights :)

I do aesthetic medicine on the side and have teamed up with a local physician. We have a very non-traditional approach to cosmetic injection in that we do not have our own med spa. We do injections out of day spas and often team up with the spa owners and rent a room at least once a month. It's a great model which allows us to have essentially little to no overhead and expense of running our own spa (plus day spa does all the marketing for us). Additionally, my doc gets wholesale discounts via Allergan and other distributors for all our cosmetic meds (botox, belo, juve, radiesse...etc), some of which are often better than allergan's. I do know that allergan will not ship to a home address (and they will verify), but you can always have it shipped to the spa or center you will be injecting out of. Let me know if I can help in anyway or if you want to talk to my doc friend

Ciao!

Kai
