New york work schedule

Nurses General Nursing

Hi,

I am in need of some advice, this is the situation.

I work from 11h00pm-7h00am, I was told that the weekend is

(OFF) friday and saturday

(ON) sunday

and then the next week

(ON) friday and saturday

(OFF) sunday

I know that days and evening shift nurses do a rotation (i.e) off saturday and sunday and off the following weekend.

I am the only full time night nurse and I was told this is the "weekend" schedule for this shift. I am just curious if it is normal that I am the only person that does not get saturday and sunday off?

Thanks for the advice

I do not think that schedule is necessarily unique to New York! If I worked that schedule I would want it the way you have it currently to maximize weekend off time. If you were to work Friday night, you would work until 7 on Saturday morning. I may be a bit of a weakling, but I would have to sleep a decent chunk of my Saturday or be miserably tired all day. On the other hand, if I had Friday/Saturday off, I could enjoy Friday, Saturday and most of Sunday. I would probably take a nap from like 7pm-10pm on Sunday night, but I would still feel like I got most of my weekend to myself! So, I don't know if it is "normal," but I think that may be where they are coming from!
