New nurse can't find niche

Nurses General Nursing

Hi guys, I need advice. So my first nurse job was as a case manager in hospice which i did for a year. It took forever to get a foot in the door at the local hospital doing floor nursing. But I finally did. I've worked nights for 2 months and I hate it. I left hospice because of the driving and poor benefits. I know everyone says I should stick with it for a year but I absolutely hate it. I got an interview for Davita dialysis and was wondering if it would be less stressful. I am a person who loves routine and hates patient emergencies/rapids. Anyone have any words of wisdom? Anyone have experience working for Davita in md?

You're a bit young in your career to find your nitch right away, but I can certainly understand hating to work nights. I couldn't do that either. You need to listen to your body in addition to addressing career needs. No, I've never worked for DiVita before but I think it's good to try new things.

However, to protect your employment history, you really should give it some time before you jump ship, unless working nights is making you physically ill. Are there any day shifts available or evenings you could work instead of nights? Usually the new nurses start on nights, but there may be some local companies hiring for better hours.

You cannot realistically expect that a "routine" will not on occasion be interrupted by an emergency. Nursing is what it is.
