New Grad starting in PCU Neuro

Nurses General Nursing

Published

I'm a new graduate nurse, and just recently passed my NCLEX! I accepted a position in a new grad program in PCU Neuro and will be starting at the end of the month. I am so excited to be starting my first job, but I have NO IDEA what to expect from this unit. I've worked in a nursing home during my time as a nursing student and leading up to the point, so I've seen cases of dementia, and the after effects of patients who are progressively recovering from stroke... things like that. I guess I'm just looking for answers as to what I should expect as a new grad going into a step down unit.

Does anyone have any tips and tricks? Any things I should study prior to starting? Books to read? Etc, etc. I am very excited but also nervous because I never saw myself doing neuro, but I knew I wanted to be in a new grad program fresh out of school!. I'm keeping an open mind, nonetheless! Any advice helps!
