Hi all!

I have just moved to Jacksonville and I have applied for a lot of nursing positions with no luck. The issue is that many require a BSN, which I will have this December. I graduated with my ADN in July and I have my nursing license. I really am having trouble getting a job. I started calling the HR department at different hospitals and many of them have not returned my calls.

I am trying to apply to "New Nurse" positions, but again, many of them require BSN's. I would like to explain my ADN/BSN situation to the hospitals but that's hard to do without a phone call back!

Please help! I could use advice, tips, anything.

What are you doing as far as networking? Sometimes, it's more about who you know than what you know. Join some of the nursing organizations (the state nursing association, a specialty organization that interests you, etc) and attend the meetings as a networking opportunity.

Where all are you looking for jobs? Many facilities are seeing far more applicants than open positions, and one way they are culling the applicants is by requiring or preferring a BSN. Are you looking at positions aside of the acute care hospital? Nursing homes, rehab facilities, and other off the beaten path nursing positions need filled as well- you may have better luck looking into those.

Thank you for the comment. I just moved here so I don't really know what the clubs/organizations are here. I could look into that. I've been looking for jobs anywhere and everywhere. Thanks for the advice!

You might just have to wait until December, unfortunately. Hospitals can pick and choose exactly what they want because there are more applicants than jobs now, especially in areas that are considered nicer places to live. You just moved to a beach town in a warm climate - they are probably not hurting for applicants.

Is there anything else that you can do while waiting for December to come? If you have worked retail or customer service before, you could always pick up a customer service job while you are applying for nursing jobs. It might not be glamorous, but some income is better than no income.

I suppose I could do that! I'm big on customer service so that's always an option. Would that look bad if I hadn't gotten a job since I had my license for 5 months?
