New Canadian Grad seeking U.S. opportunities in several states

  1. Hi,
I will be graduating with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from the University of Prince Edward Island in May, 2007. I am really interested in working in the U.S. Could anyone tell me if there are any hospitals in Arizona, Connecticut, Tennessee, North Dakota, Utah, Florida, Montana, New Mexico, Texas, Hawaii that offer a sign on bonus and new grad training? What is the salary for new grads? And, what is the cost of living? Any info would be appreciated! Thanks.

Please take the time to read the stickies at the top of the International Forum as they pertain to you.

You will be considered a foreign grad and need to go thru those requirements which are usually in addition to what the US grads need to go thru. You will also need to obtain a Visa Screen Certificate before you can be issued a visa to work in the US. No actual job can be offered to you intil you pass the NCLEX-RN exam either.

And the process cannot be started until you actually have a completed set of transcripts, so you are looking at minimum of a year from now before you will be able to legally work in the US.

With a Canadian passport, you do qualify for the Nafta TN Visa.

Yale-New Haven Hospital in Connecticut offers good sign-on bonuses and has extensive new grad training program. Try to contact them. I'm sure that there are many hospitals in USA that will be more that happy to hire you. We desperately need nurses. In return, can you tell me about living in Cape Breton, Nova Scotia? You're pretty close to CB. Thanks!
