Need job advice

I have been working the at the same hospital for 8 years as a clerk during which i was doing pre reqs and going through nursing school. I graduated and passed the Nclex and went to my nurse manager hoping to see about any new opportunities. Had a meeting and there are no opportunities due to downsizing, different bargaining unit ,etc.... Needless to say i was very upset. I have an excellent work history at this hospital and perturbed they wouldn't help.

My immediate impulse is to just quit and focus all my attention on getting a nursing career going somehow. Its very hard for me to be a new licensed nurse and sit behind my secretary desk and answer phones.

Should i leave with out having a new job?

I'd probably look for a new job while continuing at your old one so you are guaranteed a pay check.

I worked as a CNA for four years during school, when I graduated I was simply told that the hospital does not have the facilities to train and hire new grads. End of story. I accepted that my hospital did not owe me anything beyond CNA employment, and applied elsewhere.

There were other hospitals open to new nurses and I found a job elsewhere. Meeting new people in a new place helped my transition my role from CNA to RN as well.

The clerk job will keep money coming in while you apply for jobs. Don't quit. Remember, you may be dissapointed with your employer, but remember- they do not owe you anything besides the job you currently work.

absolutely right. Its a waste of time and energy dwelling on negative feelings into them. I'll just work harder to find that nursing job!
