Hi all! Unfortunately I am completely stuck in my BSN process and I'm so close to the end! Can you believe that I cannot find a mentor nurse in Community Health in such a large place as Los Angeles? I have spent 6 months contacting many nurses but have not yet gotten a yes. I have had to drop my practicum twice and now I'm risking having to withdraw from my school. I cannot graduate until I have completed a practicum (60hrs) in a community health nursing area. I currently work as an OR nurse in La Crescenta. I am a hard worker and a good student. If you are interested, or know someone who would be a good mentor, please contact me. If you know of nursing forums that would be a great idea for me to post my request on, I would love it if you could point me in the right direction.

When I worked for home care we had students all the time. Have you tried all the VNA?

What types of community health are acceptable for your community health placement? Public health clinics? Correctional facilities? Outpatient clinics? Homecare?

I have tried home care organizations but they tell me they "don't do that". My mentor cannot be a vocational nurse. The requirement is bachelors and above. Thank you.

All of the above will work. Even pregnancy decision centers, etc. I have tried many. Any nursing in the community will do. Thank you.

Ok, I am probably showing my ignorance here... I'll be starting my BSN program in August, so I don't know how these things work.

Does your university help you find a mentor at all? I would think if they required a specific amount of hours in a specific field that they would have the resources to help you find a mentor and have established relationships with facilities/nurses for placement.

Sorry, I'm no help, I wish you luck!
