Need a Hit Mainstream TV show about nurses!!!

Nurses General Nursing

Published

So there's Grey's Anatomy, House, and ER on mainstream tv...then you got stuff on cable like Strong Medicine, Life in the ER, etc. Most of these shows revolve around Physicians or are nothing better than a soap opera, and on another thread there is a letter-writing campaign beginning for the advocacy of better PR on tv for nurses on these shows.

WHY is there not a show that is about NURSES??? At least on the main networks, FOX, ABC, CBS, and NBC? It would be a great way to promote the profession and educate the public on what we do! It could certainly become just as much of a hit and have some drama. It could even explain the various roles of CNAs, LPNs, RNs, Nurse Managers, CRNAs, etc. Anybody have any thoughts on this?

I read the proposed pilot from that link. I didn't get past the second page. Maybe I'm a visual person, but it bored the heck out of me. Not to mention, who talks like that? I can't see the mainstream public interested in a patient's med dosages.

Like I said, maybe I need to see actors acting.

In the meanwhile, this may be the closest we get. Maybe some of our other computer savvy nurses can create and produce their own online shows?

I'm surprised a high-budget reality show that follows nurses in various settings hasn't made the cut with some network, and here's why. Patients usually demonstrate a certain respect or fear of doctors, which makes them compliant with the physician's wishes while the cameras are rolling. But that doesn't make for good drama or humor.

On the other hand, nurses see the REAL behavior of patients behind the scenes -- and that often does make for good drama or humor.

Given the popularity of programs that show people at their worst and/or funniest, I'm very surprised no one has thought of following nurses with a camera and recording the "wacky antics" of patients. Sounds like a ratings winner to me.

There is probably less legal tape with a fictional show than a reality show...HIPPA you know. But I too am shocked that there is such poor advocacy for a nursing show. If it was balanced with accuracy and a little drama then I would be glued to my tv.

no I think it was truly just a bad pilot

I could have written one better than that:rotfl:

Come on! 5 new grads living in one house, working together, and wearing pink badges...and that was only in the first 20 or so lines. No wonder it has not been accepted.

Good. I thought it was just that I was too picky or something. It was a bit preachy, too.

I agreee, and said a long time ago it would be great if we had a good, balanced show that featured nurses, rather than docs. And feature them in an honest light. But it hasn't happened yet.

Obviously to sell, there would have to be some drama and soapish stuff. As long as it made nurses the heroes for once.

:yeah: :yeah: :yeah: :yeah: :yeah:

all these other shows started as a pilot with no audience at one time and all it took was for someone to push there idea.

that is what we need to do. (but not this pilot, a better one)
