Has anyone heard of, or used the MDG medical system for pharmacy? Its like a Pix or Omnicell.... we got it at our hospital and it has been nothing but trouble!!!!!!! breaks down all the time. Impossible to interface. but they sure sold a bag of goods to us with the sales staff!!!! half the price of Pixes. More security......yea, its so secure, we can't even get meds out for patients that need them!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

any have any experience with this system?? I would love to hear.

No, I haven't been at the bedside in quite a while now. I do remember the first Pyxis systems we got were buggy to the max. The usual response from the help desk would be unplug and wait 5-10 minutes....DUH how about I need that drug 5 minutes AGO! What kind of failures are you talking about? Personally I really don't trust wi-fi or blue tooth because I have a pacemaker and it's drilled into my head don't get in any wireless stream...Is that one of the problems? Tell us about it.

Interface issues are huge. Patients admited into our computerised system, not showing up in the medication system. Medications not going across the interface. Allergy info not crossing over. And lots and lots of mechanical issues. Drawers not opening, or all the drawers, including narcotics, popping open at random times.

Oh and the ICU tower burned up one night, on a Friday....and they were without the whole system, passing meds out of plastic bins for a week.

Oh, and bar code scanners that don't scan. label printers that don't print labels. system locking on an error and shutting the whole thing down for days.

freezing up all the time and needing to be rebooted. MDG has been a bit of a nightmare! And the interface glitches go on and on! MDG doesn't recognize anything but a full hour....so those meds you want to give a half hour apart. forget about scheduling that way. and with meds given 1/2 hr before meals, we just have to reschedule the meals.... since the system won't accomidate for it. Oh the system comes with MARs and reports.... which we can't use, since they are so hit and miss.

I could go on and on... ( and probably will!) :banghead:

Oh, did I mention our QA dept said we have a 300% increase in med errors since we started MDG? oh let me check that for typos...... nope, THREE HUNDRED PERCENT ERROR INCREASE once we went with the automated MDG system!!!!!!
