Looking for a new job in nursing

Nurses General Nursing

Published

Good day!

I am a nurse who worked 8.5 years in Disease Management and last year in Case Management in same managed care facility. The last year in Case Management is salary and although I thought you could work 8 hours and then flex the rest with time out this is not so.

I have documented hours I actually worked on my time card only to be told to change those hours to 8 hours a day even though I work 11am to 11pm some days with maybe a lunch.

First of all does anybody know if this is legal?

I also am looking for another job perhaps in CM although I do not have my CM certification yet I am finishing up my Master's in Education in August of 2017 as this present CM job is a mess.

I want to go on to get my CNP.

And lastly what is a great nurse practitioner certificate school which gives a great education but also helps the student online? I thought about Simmons. But not sure.

Does this all make sense?

Thanks for all of the help.

It's not only legal, but the norm. Salaried employees have costs distributed. The distributions are based on an 8 hour day, even though it's not common for salaried employees to work 40 hours a week. When I was a VP, my clock still read 8 hours, so it could be distributed appropriately.

Of note, that's a accounting issue. If your contract says you work 40 hours a week and can flex the rest, there needs to be a way to account for that so you don't work 12 hours every day. But that's a contract or policy issue.
