Is there a move afoot to decrease length of stay again??

Nurses General Nursing

My NM came back from meeting the other day. I overheard a conversation she was having with another nurse about the meeting. She said the meeting was to give input to homecare nurses about how to care for patients that were going to be sent home while still acutely ill. HUH?? Is it possible to hang anymore responsiblity on the much harried homecare nurses? Is it possible to send people home any sicker than they already are being sent home?

Really makes one wonder what "healthcare" is coming to. :stone

Then again, I wonder if the patients aren't better off at home with a good homecare nurse looking after them, as opposed to being in a hospital which is way understaffed and the nurses so overburdoned and stressed that the care received is minimal, at best...???

I like the idea of doctors going back to making housecalls and nurses working privately in the homes.

Was a thread on this here a few days or weeks a go.... I really like the idea.

Back to the good ol' days. :balloons:
