How to know if job interview went well

Hi all! I'm from SF and had a job interview last Wednesday in NY. I have 3.5 yrs Med-Surg experience and this was for an IVF nurse position that I am extremely interested in. I met with the nurse recruiter then she sent me over to the hospital to meet the nurse manager. The manager was fun to talk to and very funny and kept saying she's sorry when she was joking around because she wanted to be more professional, etc. She had one of the nurses tour me around the facility and was even introduced to some of the other nurses. When I got back to the manager, she asked me how long I was in town and when I told her Saturday, she immediately said "hold on!" and called the office of the doctor I would be working with to ask if he was available to meet me. He was booked that day so she made an appointment for me to meet him Friday 8am. She talked highly of him and even gave me tips on things to say when I met him, etc. She introduced me to more of the nursing staff and it seemed like it went well.

I met with the doctor on Friday and we talked for about 20min where he explained the position and what I would be doing. Even talked about his wife being from California. Then when it was over, he told me that he expects they have to make a decision so that they would get back to me soon (but no set day). That afternoon, I e-mailed the recruiter and the manager a thank you message. It's Tuesday and I still haven't gotten a reply. I know I should wait a week so I want to follow up tomorrow. I was wondering if it's too late to also send a thank you card? I'm so anxious and don't know what to do! I had interviewed for another job after I met with the doctor similar to what I'm doing now and basically got offered the position on the spot but I haven't given them an answer because of this IVF job. It makes me feel more anxious that this other position was offered right away but the IVF hasn't even replied to my thank you email :( Any advice?

You know what, if it is a doctor making the final decision, it might take a while. He's going to get back to it when he feels he has the time to. If I were you, I'd call, and inquire. Go ahead and be frank and say you have another offer but really thing you would love working for them and hoping it's not rude of you to ask if they could give you an idea now of when they would be making a decision. I think in this economy you have to be bold so you are not left out of two jobs!! I have decided I'm going to do this, had a similar situation, and waited to long for the 2nd job because I didn't want to bug the first. The first ended up on the back burner nobody has been hired, probably want someone who meets their requirements exactly - so, I lost the second one because I delayed in responding.

Thank you for the advice onaclearday! The 2nd job recruiter emailed me today saying she was going to call me after her morning meetings so we'll see what she says. I'm pretty sure she's going to give me the salary info, etc. I just don't want to be stuck doing the same thing I'm doing now but in another city but I guess nowadays, finding a job is tough enough so I should be happy that I got an offer. I will definitely call the IVF position tomorrow and follow up though because it is my dream job. I don't know how else I can make them realize that I'm fit for the position! CROSSING MY FINGERS! :nurse:

Why wait till tomorrow? Call the dream job today -- I don't think it's too soon given that you have another offer pending.

Good luck!

Thanks for the encouragement noahsmama! My interview was on Wednesday so I was advised by people to give it at least a week. So today, I'm going to distract myself so I'm not so anxious! One of my references told me she hasn't been contacted yet so not sure if they're just busy or they just don't care. Hopefully busy! Trying to think positive! :)

I'm very anxiously waiting on interview results too! Within my own facility moving away from bedside. I had the first round, waited two weeks, then told I was selected in the top 3 candidates (and they are hiring TWO positions so that's pretty good odds right?) Had a 2nd interview with a VP and surgeon and am supposed to hear by the end of this week. I'm a nervous wreck (and PMSing too lol..that sure doesn't help) I am working the next 2 nights and can barely go to sleep wondering about everything as this would totally change my daily routines. It also makes me wonder if these 2 shifts could possibly be my last as a bedside nurse....on pins and needles. And wow, you are looking at a cross country move too! double stress girl!

Hi Mommy TeleRN! Good luck! It sounds very promising since you also already work at the facility. And that you met those top people on the 2nd interview! I know how you feel, I sleep late and wake up early thinking about it :( At least they're choosing 2! At the IVF place, it's only ONE opening and it's only because the nurse decided to go back to bedside. I'm also nervous because most jobs either make an offer right away or call me the next day or so. I know some people don't respond to thank you emails but that also got me feeling blue because when I left the interview, I felt good and it felt like they liked me. Guess we'll just have to see! Hope it works out for us both :D

After a total of 4 weeks of interviewing..I got the job offer this morning. Have to discuss with hubby but I can't see why I wouldn't accept!

I hope you hear back soon..keep us posted!

Congrats Mommy TeleRN!!! I'm so happy for you :) As for me, still not sleeping well. I called today ready to leave a speech on the voicemail but she ended up answering and saying she hasn't forgotten me but she's just been really busy trying to get people in (no idea what she meant) and that she's meeting with the doctor today.. She sounded really busy. Such a short conversation. Still hoping
