how long have you been at your job and what kept you there? i'm almost 12 yrs. at the same place due to benes and bonus check, and hopes of retirement after 30 yrs. i'm 37 now, so if you comment i would like to know your age if you care to share. my work environment has definately gone down hill but i hate to leave possibly for non greener pastures, if ya know what i mean.

I'm 36 and have been a nurse for 12 years. I'm a psych nurse and have been at the same job for the entire 12 years (nightshift on a concentrated-care or "lock-up" unit). My work environment has drastically declined but I still enjoy my job most of the time. I don't think there is such a thing as a perfect job.

Specializes in ER, ICU, L&D, OR.

Howdy yall

from deep in the heat of texas

Been where Im at for 15 years now, kinda found a home I guess

doo wah ditty

The same hospital full time for 26.5 years. RN for 19 of them. I have worked other places and things part- time but this has been the "main job".

I'm going on 7 years at the same hospital, Med-Surg setting... 2 years of LTC prior to that.

Peace:)

I'm 23. I will "celebrate" my 5 year anniversary with my hospital in December...

Worked on CICU for 3 1/2 years as a tech, then student...did 16 week internship between ER and CVRR, worked 6 months in the ER, now work in After Hours Occ Health (also in the ER, and still take care of ER pts as well as Occ Health) and have done that since ~ April. Content for now...but my wandering foot gets to itching periodically... ;)

Worked at a Level I for a 12 week ICU internship during school, too...wouldn't mind going back there someday...

After one year on the job I am beginning to wonder why I am still here? Geesh, I have never seen so much back biting and under-handed back stabbing. There are nurses on this floor who spend time just looking for something to write up a co worker on. I have read many times on this board, "nurses eat their young", but here they aren't proud who they eat up and spit out!

:::::::::::::::Getting out while the getting is good::::::::::::::

I've been at my current job less than a year, but in the same type of work for over 20 yrs. Does that count? ;)

I plan on staying where I am till I get my RN, then moving on to something else......
