How do I tell the manager at my new job I don't think I can do this/I quit!!?

I recently started a new job on a BUSY Med/Surg unit. Coming from a small, more laid back hospital setting and also LTC, I had no idea how busy and stressful a med/surg unit could be! Anyways, I don't have much previous experience, but I do have some so I was scheduled to have 7 DAYS of floor orientation. I personally thought that was a little low (is it?), but I made an effort and toward the end, asked for a little more. Got two more days of floor orientation....

It's probably not enough, but I really don't want to keep asking to extend my orientation period. I think maybe this is NOT the hospital, floor, or setting for me after all :/

I think I would like to quit and go back to LTC where I can at least not be sneered at or ridiculed for not being "fast enough" in 9 days.

How can I tell my manager this unit is too hard and quit? I haven't been there long enough to transfer--- if I thought I could stick it out long enough to transfer (6 months), I would, but I really don't think I CAN!

The company is supposedly a nice one, but like I said, I don't think I can stay in this job much longer and I have even been questioning if nursing is right for me..

I would feel better answering phones or something with a much slower pace (!) I need a job, but I would take a pay cut!

Should I even bother explaining the way I feel, or should I just quit?

If you find another job, or can go back to your old one, just quit. No need to feel guilty or explain yourself.

Recently I quit a job after 3 months and should have quit sooner, but felt guilty. It just wasn't a good fit and stressed me out and killed my confidence. Recently I started a much better job and the difference is night and day!

As for orientation, if you're experienced and it's the same speciality that seems about right. I'm PRN at this new job and am getting about that (in addition to hospital classroom orientation stuff). Maybe they're just not taking into consideration how different a facility it is for you.

A busy med surg unit is not for everyone. I don't think I'd last long there!

Just quit I was doing private duty nursing and quit after a month it wasn't the right environment or job for me. I also don't think it's fair to only get a week orientation at my hospital its at least a month and if you need more it can be extended. AND don't get discouraged I'm in my first nursing job and right off orientation I made so many errors and forgot to do things but it gets easier!
