1) Low intermittent suction of gastric contents is generally used in all of the following except:

a-to reduce abd distention

b-to prevent aspiration

c-when bowel sounds are absent

d- to control bleeding

D. If you have bleeding, suction isn't going to control bleeding. Logically, I can't even see how sucking on something bleeding could possibly stop it. You know what's going to control bleeding? Your friendly neighborhood EGD w/ banding if pt has varices or a solid PPI w/ ulcers.

Think about the indications for NG tubes with suction. Which medical conditions may require an NG tube? That should help you decide the answer.
