Help! Am I in a safe place?!

Nurses General Nursing

I work in a detox facility. I can have anywhere from 5-28 patients at a time (where I am the only nurse[i'm an LPN]). I work 12+ hour shifts with no break or lunch. I also can be called at anytime to cover for another location (which is next door) or do med pass for another 15-25 patients. Does this seem normal or even legal to anyone else or am I in a bad position? Please let me know what you think!

I think you already know the answer.

You are working in unsafe conditions. Are you working at a UHS-owned facility?

If you aren't getting a lunch break, are you filling out paperwork to be paid for the break time? You should. And that would draw administration's attention to the fact that something is amiss on your unit. They usually HATE to pay out extra money.

Labor regulations (or whatever they're called) vary by state. Your working conditions don't sound great, though.

If you have to ask, you already know. Good luck in your job hunt!
