Handling Trades

My PICU UBC is looking to change our scheduling policy. Specifically how we handle trades. So I was looking for feedback on how your hospital handles trades. The more responses the better.

Every place I have worked has had some kind of form that had to be filled out for the trade. It would have a spot for both nurses to list their name, the shift they were giving up and the shift they were taking instead. Each nurse would have to sign the bottom of the form and then give it to the manager/scheduler. The manager/scheduler would then approve (or deny) the change, make the change on the schedule, and give a copy of the approved notice back to each nurse. There were specific rules about what we could swap (such as needing to be within the same pay period and could not lead to overtime).

That's exactly how we did it also. Worked like a charm.
