follow up to "switching to per diem" post

Hello

A few months ago I wrote my "I'm burned out" post and seeking advice re: per diem status.

I've requested a change to part time status and it was granted. It won't come into effect until June because I agreed to work through the next schedule.

I feel so relieved. I will work 2 shifts a week. I feel a little better already, as I will have more free time, but still have a steady paycheck. I will see how it goes, I still might move to per diem in the future.

Thanks for the advice, everyone. I am looking forward to a summer with more free time (to take classes, relax, spend time with family and friends).

:)

Years ago I was full time and exhausted; because of other obligations I had to work every other weekend and only had isolated days off, never two in a row. I finally cut back by one day, and it made all the difference in the world. I'm glad your employer was willing to work with you. June isn't that far off, hang in there!

Glad to hear all worked out! I too work perdiem in a ER and its made all the difference in the world at home and in my attitude at work. some months I work twice others more- just depends on what is going on with "my life" and not the other way around. hang in there- June isnt too far off

I did the same thing last week. I will work 2 more weeks at fulltime status and then cut back to as needed. This was a big choice for me as I really need to have medical and term insurance.

I plan to work 2 to 3 nights a week. Right now, I only work M,Tu and Th every week, I never have to work a weekend if I don;t want to. We have a weekend crew. This was hard for me to get use to because before Katrina I worked every other weekend and had more time off during the week ( which is the way I like it).

Ever since the hurricane it has been very hard on me. Lost my house, my job (hospital in Chalmette, La)etc. My family is all over Louisiana as well as my coworkers and friends. It has been a challenge to "start over". I'm no spring chicken.

Hopefully this will be a good choice for both of us. Keep me posted.

I am thrilled that I will be able to attend all the baseball, soccer games etc. for my grandchildren. And, of course, get myself out this trailer and into a house.

Best of luck.

Went perdiem 7 years ago when dd was born. NO regrets at all.

Thank you!

Cutting back hours in this stressful career can only be a good thing. :)

You have really been through a tough time! Best of luck to you.
