CNA certification

Nurses General Nursing

Published

i am a sophomore, will be a junior after this semester psychology major planning on getting a lcsw...

however, i would love to earn my cna certification in order to work in a hospital on a psychiatric ward, if possible. however, i have no idea how to go about that, or if it is even possible with me not having any nursing knowledge at all.

i attend valdosta state university and cannot find that they have a program. i know that valdosta technical college has a health assistant degree program- not sure if that is the same thing? i could also do it at southwest georgia technical college if they offered it.

so- anywhere in valdosta, georgia or valdosta, georgia.

That course is the ONLY course you need to become a certified nursing assistant. You are eligible to sit for the exam upon completing the course.

AHeartLikeHis,

I applaud you! I wish that anyone who works with people in a healthcare setting (not just patients or residents) had a foundation of basic patient care. CNA is one great place to get it.

There's actually a whole CNA forum here - https://allnurses.com/cna-nursing-assistant/

Thank you sooo much for that...you can see I am stupid in this area, lol.

Not a problem :) We all have things we're great at and my short list includes finding virtually anything that exists on the Internet. Good luck! I also commend you on your goals and aspirations.

Do you know if they offer the same thing at Southwest Georgia Technical College?

Yea they do - it is also CNA 100 (8 credit hours)

Hopefully I can ask you another question- LOL

Can you find on those websites when the summer quarter would start?

I get out of my semester May 7th...so I want something directly after that, if possible...

But I cannot find those dates on the sites?

I am sorry for being so computer illiterate!

They look like they both start in early July

Vladosta Tech College is July 8 and the second one is July 7

Specializes in LTC,Hospice/palliative care,acute care.

Many facilities offer on the job training and certification at no cost to you-some ask that you remain employed there for a length of time-others don't. The LTC I work in is also a state testing site.

Do you know if either Archbold Hospital or South Georgia Medical center offers that option? ^

Specializes in Trauma ICU, Peds ICU.

Make sure their are jobs for CNAs in mental health where you live first. This may be a regional thing, but CNAs aren't used in mental health settings where I live.
