Clinical Research Nurse

Nurses General Nursing

Published

Hi everyone

I have a interview for a research nurse post, any information would be very much appreciated. Not sure what to expect.

Specializes in Critical Care, Education.

I'd advise you to do a quick dive into IRB (Institutional Review Board) rules & regulations. Pretty much all health care research has to abide by these regs, so it's good to be familiar with them. You may want to inquire about how the position is funded. If it's funded by a research grant, the job may actually be temporary & disappear when the grant runs out. Reporting relationships are also important. If the position does not have a direct reporting line to a Nurse executive, how does it align with nursing practice in the larger organization? This is important, because if the Supervisor is not a nurse, they won't be familiar with nursing scope of practice.

Skill set wise, the important aspects are Communication, Attention to Detail & Organizational Skills, as well as clinical expertise/knowledge & skills in the areas most relevant to the research area.

Good Luck!

Hi HouTx

Firstly thank you for responding. Really good advice, the field of research huge, didn't know where to start looking. I am going to arrange a visit, before. clinically I have no worries ( I don't think) but it is the research side of things I' m worried about. Wondering what they will ask, you know the usual thoughts prior to an interview.

thanks again
