Nurses General Nursing

Published

Hi, I just moved here and have just started to look for a position. I was wondering if you could tell me what the average pay is for RN with 12 yrs, the last year I've worked in ICU before that various things. Thank you!!!!!

Mandee

Oh! I'm in Charleston:)

MANDEE,

MOVED FROM CHARLESTON, SC 4 YEARS AGO. HAD WORKED THERE ALMOST 15 YEARS BEFORE MOVING BACK HOME. SALARIES WERE GOOD 4 YEARS AGO. BETTER THAN MOST AREAS. I WORKED AT ROPER HOSPITAL{ DOWNTOWN} AND IT WAS WONDERFUL. WORKED IN THE ER FOR SEVERAL YEARS. LET ME KNOW HOW IT GOES.

JOY LEE :nurse: :D ;)

Thanks Joy Lee....anyone else working in SC now who can give me a rough idea??

I interviewed last week at a hospital in Greenwood, SC (Self Memorial) -- an hour away from Greenville. They pay $18/hr base, then the usual shift differentials of a few dollars for evenings/nights. Pay on 2nd/3rd is $20/hr. Then weekend 2nd/3rd is $29/hr.

This is new grad pay. Not sure what an experienced nurse would make.

don't know much about the pay scale...down there...but do know you are in a great city...lots of hospitals, lots of jobs....enjoy the beautiful environment and the beaches...!!! I am envious!:) :) :)

So far we are loving it here! It's beautiful, lots of history. :)

LET ME KNOW WHERE YOU DECIDED TO WORK. I MISS CHARLESTON SOOOOOOOOOO BAD. PROB WILL MOVE BACK IN A FEW YEARS. GOOD LUCK.

JOY LEE

Hi Mandee!

I am moving to Charleston from M.B. at the end of the month. (So excited!) Hopefully I will be attending MUSC in January-will find out soon.

Spoke to someone last week who is an LPN at St. Francis in West Ashley, she said she was making $12/hr, but that RN's there made 3X as much as she did. (Met her in line at Trident in the Nursing building.) Don't know how accurate that is, but it impressed her enough to send her back to school for her ADN.

Good luck finding a good place to work!

Julie

Hey,

Good luck to you in Charleston. What a cool place to be!

I worked as a travel nurse last year about an hour west of Charleston. As a traveler in the ER with 16 years of experience I was making $24/hr. Lowest pay I've ever had, except for my first few years out of school.

I don't know where you're coming from, but the south is notoriously low in pay for nurses. Bummer, since it's such a beautiful place to live.

Good luck in your relocation.

I have lived just out side of Charleston, SC for 7 years now. I have worked at a few of the area hospitals. Summerville Hosp is nice if you like a small town hosp. The kind where everyone knows everyone, it is run by the same people who run Trident Hospital so pays around the same $18-20 for floor nurse a little more for speciality, with night and weekend shift diffs. I am not real crazy about Trident Hosp. I worked there faithfully for 4 3/4 years then I hurt my back and they basically made my working conditions so miserable I quit. ( It is a long story)

I work at MUSC now in the cancer center. Pays here average 20 and up. I think Roper is about the same. Both are nice places to work. I do prn with an Agency called ATC average pay there is $24-30. I know MUSC has a trauma center and several ICU.

You can check them out on line at http://www.musc.edu.

Hoped this helped.

Thank you all! So far we love it here, except maybe for the "palmetto bugs"!!! LOL But we've managed to keep them outside! :) I interviewed for a hospice position today....MUSC looked really great but the parking etc....and I really want to get back to hospice, so wish me luck!!

Mandee

Hey !! Mandee and Becky, I left Charleston 3 1/2 years ago. I was a new grad, worked at Summerville Med. Ctr. I really liked the staff, but the work was hard, and the pay was crap. With 12 years experience you will probably make mid 20's. I loved Charleston, lived there for 10 years, made the best friends in the world. I'm in WA now, pay much better, but location doesn't even compare. I n 6 years my youngest will graduate. If I can last that long I will, but I know I will be back to Charleston. I'm saving my money, going to buy me a house on the Ashley River, lay in my hammock and sip mint julips all day. Best of luck to you!!
