Adult Strep Throat

I had strep throat last year for the first time in almost twenty years. I got it again, about three weeks ago. Well, as I sit here typing this, my throat is killing me again, and I am seriously considering having another rapid strep and/or culture done when I go into work tomorrow. I have cryptic tonsils with all the icky debris, but that is nothing new. I don't know what else to think here. I can't imagine I have enough tonsils left to pull at my age, but I can't keep going through this!

Any advice?

Have everyone you live with tested - even your dog can be a carrier! Take care of yourself, don't get run down and let the bugs in. Hope you feel better!

My thoughts exactly!

Working in Peds I have seen entire families with recurrent strep. I can not count the number of times the source often turned out to be the one kid who NEVER got sick (so they never got swabbed). Throat cultures (NOT the rapid strep test) done while "well" will show if someone is a carrier.

Thanks for the thoughts everyone!

The ped I work for did the rapid strep yesterday, and it was negative. I was off today, so I got a call from on of the phone RN's saying the culture was positive. So, I now start my second course of abx in four weeks, and I will be taking everyone in for a throat culture Monday!

Ain't life grand?
