Now folks, I am a firm believer in having babies, but I think that if you are old enough to retire, you might want to think about NOT starting a family. Why would you bring a child into the world that you most likely will not see graduate high school? Has life expectancy increased that much in the last few years? This woman was pregnant with twins via in vitro fertilization. Sadly, one was still born after her C-SECTION!!! I just think this is wrong, not because I think older people should not have babies, but more along the lines of being able to do the physically demanding job of parenting. I may be wrong, but I just figured menopause had a purpose?
She is from Romania and they have socialized medicine. Who would have approved this as eligible under socialized medicine? I would think she would have had to pay the bill herself. Artificial Insemination is not expensive like IVF.
I live in the UK and we have socialised medicine, but fertility treatment has to be paid for by the client in most cases. The lucky few who do get it on the NHS, only get two or three attempts. And the cutoff age for fertility treatment, whether private or NHS is 50 (as it is in most countries). Fortunately, Romania is also introducing this age limit, but not for another two years.
I am with most of the postings here... 66 is wayyyy too old to be rearing a child

I have to agree. I'm not slapping the woman up for it (even though I think this was incredibly ill advised) but I would like to have a word with the doctor who facilitated this scheme. My son has autism, as do two children from two of his brothers. Given the genetic propensity for another of my children to have autism, I chose not to have another. I desperately would have loved to have more than one child, but it would have been selfish to expose another child to this risk factor. I feel the same way about this woman exposing her children to the risks of being born to this mother. Sometimes we have to accept that things are the way they are for a reason.
