Geek Nurses, Front and Center!

Published

Introduce yourselves, if you would.

ME: Susan, was a programmer prior to returning to school to become a nurse, currently an LPN and GN, waiting to have my ASN conferred and take the NCLEX-RN.

I work in a rural CAH. Have a little better than a year in LTC and med/surg and hated the floor. I loved patients, had no patience with the paperwork and administration and scapegoating nonsense of the floor.

I really lucked into a great job. I can talk clinical, English, and geek interchangeably, and have managed to convince the nurses that I really am there to advocate for them. And I do.

Your turn!

KUDOS to everyone in this forum ! Every single one of you are my inspiration in making an impact in health care technology as an RN with exceptional Geek skills. I applaud every one of you :yeah:

I just graduated in August with a degree in IS. I was deciding whether or not I should go back to school for Health Admin but after much research I chose to get my RN degree instead. Through my research I saw a lot of job postings that were looking for RNs with IT/IS backgrounds and with the demand for technology in health care, I knew getting my RN degree would be of value as I integrate it with my IS skills. I am currently an IT Health Care Intern for one of the hospitals in the Univ of California. Though I do not start the RN program until next Spring, I anticipate in excitement to be where all of you are in your careers.

Cheers!
