Thanks so much,

minnib,

The last that I heard English is the one thing EC will not let you Clep out of. You can study for the exam, English Composition, without taking the actual online course through EC. I took College Writing (now discontinued) so I can't tell you much about it. From other posts I've read, if your reasonably comfortable writing, after with some study time, it is very doable. I found the MyAccess program through EC, available when you register for the English exam to be the most helpful in practicing for the English exam that I took.

Also something to think about, there are other courses (online) that EC accepts from other sources that cost less than $870. If you log in to MYEC you can see the alternative courses by doing a course search on English and then scroll down through the list. I'm not sure if you have to be enrolled to get that function to come up, but I am sure you could call them and ask.

If I were you I would start with something simpler, like a sociology or psychology CLEP or one of your Gen Eds first. Most ppl find English a little intimidating, unless writing is something you really like or are comfortable doing, and especially if you've been out of school a while. I dreaded taking English for that reason, but when it came down to it, wasn't really that bad at all.

Just some thoughts to consider, hope this helps.

Thank you very much Lisa for the info..this is all a little confusing right now but I will muddle through and with great people like you on AN to answer my questions I will be fine.

Thanks again,

minnib,

It is confusing at first, took me a long time to sort it all out. I didn't mean to imply that English would be too hard, but for some reason most ppl find it daunting, myself included. Distance learning courses in general can be difficult because there is no set deadlines for tests, homework etc. That ultra flexibility can easily lead to ultra nothing done. I registered for 2 exams then fiddled around nearly 7 months before taking the first one. I think I had 3 days left on my 9 month window when I took the second exam.

Anyway, pick something you think will come easily to you for your first one, it will build your confidence. After you take a few of these you get a feel for what works best for you to study. It doesn't take long before you see that this degree is definitely doable.

Thanks Lisa again yes I understand what you mean about the english..I think what I may do is to start with the 1 credit course through EC "information literacy requirement" then clep out of 1 class then clep out of another and also I am going to see what GE classes I can take at my community college...It just really hit me how exspensive the GEs are through EC!....I am thinking now can i trully afford going this route and am I up for the task of self study???....oh I have to do this..I will and I am just so thankful for all the info and help from my fellow nurses here on AN!

I am glad to know that I am not the only one feeling overwhelmed. I have to take most of my GE as well. I received my study information in October and still haven't registered for my first exam. Mostly the fear of the unknown I am sure. I am taking Psy and Ethics first. I am okay with Psy but not Ethics they talk in circles and I can't seem to find any help with that one. As far as English I took it from my local college as soon as I graduated high school, which has been quite some time now. I am going to have to schedule my test though.
