Hello, so I did a program through the adult school for my CNA and I am required to work 6 months to cover the cost at the SNF I'm employed at. I gave my boss several months notice that I would be done because I need to move. Circumstances have changed in the last week and it is urgent that I leave sooner rather than later. I have about 9 more work days left before I am done.
I am deathly afraid of talking to my boss about this because any time I bring up schedule changes she gets pretty crazy. I'm trying to manage the last 9 days with my family but the situation is pretty serious and I need to go.
I am just curious how you guys would handle this. I would like to use them as a reference but I don't think they would. Since I've worked here I've put in almost 150 hours overtime to cover from people not showing up. I'm not saying they owe it to me, because nothing is ever enough at my facility. I was just wondering if that might be an in with these people.
I also don't believe we signed a contract saying I would work 6 months, it was just verbal.

Having to work 6 months to cover the cost sounds like something you'd have in writing. Make sure you didn't sign something in the event that you have a financial penalty for leaving early. If I were in your position I'd stay the nine days, but only you know your circumstances. Sometimes you have to do what you have to do, and to heck with the reference if you have serious family issues you need to address tomorrow. But you can't expect them not to be frustrated that you committed to another nine days and didn't work them.

Although you gave your manager more than enough time, if you leave prior to your last day they can truthfully tell prospective employers that you failed to work your notice.
I agree with Swellz, you should stay the 9 days.
