Galen College

Just thought I would start a new thread about Galen. Anything and everything Galen can be posted here! Please feel free to share, or ask questions!

I am still waiting on my acceptance letter, and am going crazy:bugeyes:! Hopefully, I will be starting July 27th.:yeah:

Hi Jsadler! Books, uniforms, fees, CPR certification and all of the medical paperwork that we had to get done, all came out of our pockets! Some of us; very few; will get residual money, but not until about 8 weeks after the quarter begins. You would think that we would get a little more help with all of these expenses, but what can you do?

Thanks slmcdo05

I was trying ot figure out like how much I would need for everything. Also is everyone buying like all the books or just the required ones?

Specializes in none yet!.

So far, not including tuition, I'm out $1,000.00. I did buy all required books, including 1 optional anatomy workbook. After going through the workbook, I'm really glad I bought it. I also bought 2 sets of scrubs, and 2 sets of uniforms.

Thanks I really nervous I go to take the CPAT test in the morning and I am wanting to be prepared for everything and make sure i have enough for everything in October.

Do you get your uniforms from Galen? How much do those cost they told me $80 but I am not sure what you actually get for that price

Don't be nervous about the CPAT! The content is very easy. Just be sure to watch your time. When I took the test, I had maybe 3 min. left before I had to start the next section, and you are not allowed to go back to the previous section. Good luck tomorrow!

We do not get the uniforms from Galen. We have to get them from a company called Nanco Uniforms. The cost is $37.00 for the top. We get the uniform pants and our scrubs from Cardinal Uniforms b/c we get a discount on them there. I can't remember how much the pants and scrubs were, but they weren't too bad.

My daughter had to have XXS Petite scrubs. The pants Galen wants you to have don't come that small. I called and they said she could purchase other pants. Hope it's not going to be a problem. Also, they still aren't in. Ordered about 10 days ago. Starting to get nervous. They also have to be hemmed...

Thanks for the info blt3535. You stated that you lost 15 people in the 1st quarter, how many did you start with?

We started with 50. And now are at about 36 I believe.

anyone know if they have mailed out acceptance letters for october yet?? i took my CPAT on June 25th and got a 183 so I'm hoping to be accepted. however, the last thing i heard was that the october class is now full so they're moving people to the january class. anyone in the same boat as me who knows what's going on?? thanks!

I just went today and took the cpat and they said that there are still spots open in October and my admissions officer told me that the acceptance letters are send out the second week of August.

That's sooo weird, when I went to take the CPAT a few weeks ago, they said october was waitlisted!! i guess they were either misinformed or maybe they opened more spots up since then? anyway, thanks for the info!

One thing I will say is that they do lie so that they can get more people interested. They tell people that they have openings to get you in there to take the test and to get you started in the process. Then later they tell you that they are on a waitlist and that you can either do part time nights or wait for the next class in 3 months; most people end up waiting 3 months. This is what happened to my husband and I and I know of others that this happened to.

About 3 weeks after we found out that there really weren't any spots for the next class, I went in to drop off something at the front desk and the receptionist was still telling people that were scheduling the test that there were spots still open. I couldn't believe it! I guess they know that if they get you in there and get you interested, you'll probably end up waiting the 3 months for the next class.

It's a good school, but it's also a business!

Anyways, we are starting at the end of this month; it's been a long 3 month wait though.

Do you have to buy some sort of like nurse kit for school or does Galen provide everything you need?
