Gaining LMO as LPN from UK

Published

Hi,

My wife is a registered nurse in the UK, we have both decided to attempt to try and emigrate to Canada. She has registered as an LPN with the CLPNBC and completed the CPNRE Exam in vancouver in may. We are also preparing to submit a permanent residency visa which is almost complete. We would like to move over to Canada as soon as she has has the exam results in around 6 weeks as she will then have complete LPN registration, and permanent residency application can take some time!

1) Would she be able to go to Canada as a visitor and apply for jobs within canada.

2) if she recieves an offer how long would a Labour Market Opinion take for a foregin LPN?

3) How long would it take to get a work visa once she has an LMO. Would we need to move back to the UK and then go back to canada to obtain the work permit?

Any help would be hugely appreciated thankyou

I hate to be the bearer of bad news but the job market for LPNs in BC (especially in the lower mainland) is dire.

Nurses of both designations are looking elsewhere in Canada for employment. I work in Alberta and we have many new grads move here looking for work.

You have to understand that local new grads tend to be hired first unless your wife has extremely in demand skills you are just out of luck. Many hospitals severely limit the PN scope of practice and in reality utilize them as expensive care aides.

Specializes in Medical and general practice now LTC.

Finding employer willing to go the TWP route for LPN is going to be difficult. If lucky to find employer then LMO can take up to 3-4 months and that is after meeting advertising requirements. Then a medical will need completing before TWP is issued. Also TWP and LMO has been in the news a lot re abuse and Canadians as well as PR loosing jobs after work given to TWP. Government is stamping down on the abuse and things may just get harder. RN is back on the skilled list may be worth looking at that route but will need to be quick as I expect the quota allocation to go quickly
