Hey All,
I aM floored. I just received notice from GA Board of Nursing that they denied the endorsement of my MN RN license because I did not meet clinical practice requirements . When I called the board, they transferred me to a their Legal Nurse Consultant who stated that effective July 1, 2008 GA would no longer endorse RN license from Excelsior College students with no previous RN experience. She suggested that I go to my licensed state and work for a while then try again, but she could not give me a time frame.
Has anyone else experienced this. I thought we should at least have gotten some sort of notice/warning before this type of rule be adopted by the board. I am going to file a motion for reconsideration using an Attorney. Before I entered Excelsiors program I called GA Board to verify acceptance. I had been accepted to a traditional LPN to RN bridge program; I could have been almost finished their too. I am so sad right now. I have been crying for two days. I think I will need to see my doctor for Zoloft.
I have been an LPN for over 13 years doing Med/Surg for at least 10. I work on a hospital unit right now. THIS IS SO UNFAIR!!!:banghead:
I was told I was denied because I didnt have clinical experience as a nurse and need to obtain some to get endorsed but they wouldnt tell me how many hours I needed.
Thats too bad. Wwere you an LPN before or a Paramedic? Looks like your gonna have to go obtain expereince in another state and then try to get endorsed later. That sucks! So sorry.....
Just talked with sandy Bond she said I need to send a copy of my Respiratory license to show clinical experience. Just one more hoop to jump through. And the board is supposed to have another meeting mid april.
Gemini79, I'm sorry to hear that. Getting endorsed in past was a non-issue right? You just go get it in another state and then applied and were endorsed from what I heard. I guess it is all this waiver stuff. It must leave some gray area. If the school accepted us that's proof enough. We had to send it in to the school....remember? So do they not trust the college. I guess not.
So are you sending your national license from the NBRC or are sending the license from the state or are sending both?
I wonder why others were denied.
Umm....guys correct me if I am wrong, but it looks as though SB 49 was favorably reported by the house committee.

Looks like it's back on the House Floor on the 30th....
I was going to post on this earlier today. When I saw that I had a glimmer of hope "especially being a paramedic and thus excluded from HB 475". However, if you pull up the "current version" of the bill it appears they have removed the former bill entirely and replaced it with a bill about pharmacist's giving immuno-suppressents. I could be wrong but they way I read it they essentially replaced one bill with another under the same number.
Hello everyone I received my license in the mail yesterday, but GBON sent me an e-mail that they were issuing my license. It took forever and the rigamarole that was required to do was unbelievable. It is finally done now, and I am very thankful. To all of you still waiting , you will hear something very soon, and if not call them!! I will pray for everyone who is waiting. There is still a bill out there but the house has a bill to gight the Senate bill. Its crazy. We worked as hard as any other nursing program or harder and we shouldn't be treated this way!!!

Go back in and read the bill. They substituted a new bill for this. This bill now deals with Pharmacist if I am correct. They pulled a fast one in the house it appears.
You're right, SB 49 now only mentions pharmacists. I read over HB 475 again. It doesn't exclude paramedics, but it does say that if you enroll and/or graduate from a non-traditional program after the cutoff dates and don't have a certain amount of experience as an RN in another state, then you will have to complete a 700 hour post-graduate board approved preceptorship. Same for LPNs, only it appears they have to do 350 hours unless they meet a certain experience requirement.
I had to read, then reread it, so I could be off a little on my facts, so check it out for yourselves to be sure. But, although I don't totally agree that the extra requirements for paramedics are necessary, at least the door may not be totally slammed in the faces of future EC grads. A preceptorship, although 700 hours is ridiculous, would probably make for a smoother transition for paramedics entering the hospital environment from the prehospital environment. And yes, I realize that there will be those statistical outliers who are paramedics who have tons of in-hospital experience, and don't need any of it. These extra requirements would be placed solely on the students/graduates. EC's requirements look as though they would remain the same, so I don't guess the school would be affected at all.
Anyway, I still would have went the EC route, even with the preceptorship (as long as the hours were flexible), due to my work schedule. I hope the option remains open for others.
For those of you who get defensive when people on this board disrespectfully question your choice of school: I don't blame you one bit. They would react the same way if you questioned their abilities/school/or anything else in a public forum. But try to consider the source. The person that uses their very first opportunity to post on AllNurses to bash EC is a TROLL and doesn't deserve a single response, although I sometimes can't resist. Take a look at their profiles, previous post history, qualifications, etc. I went back and looked at the profiles of some of those who were the most "vocal" EC bashers on AllNurses when I started in 2003. Most of their profiles still read "Nursing Student", "Nursing Assistant", or "HHA" 6 years later, and some haven't been active for several years. Where did they go? Are they out there curing cancer now and don't have the time to post or bash other people that they once had? I seriously doubt it. Does it really matter? Not at all, but I was still curious about the experts of the past.
One thing I do know. Many of those former EC ASN students profiles now read NP, PhD student, CRNA, flight nurse, etc. That alone speaks volumes about those whose ranks you have decided to join. Think of those who ignored the naysayers when you are working your butts off in the rigorous EC program. They and you are the ones who truly matter. There will always be those who try to beat you down, whether it's your choice of school, place of employment, specialty choice, hair style; you name it. The naysayers will be the same miserable people years from now, whether you listen to them or if you just leave them in the dust as many of us proud EC grads have. It's up to you to continue the tradition.
PMDC (former EC ASN student; BSN graduate as of May 2009; MSN-ENP/FNP student as of Fall 2009; future DNP student)
Hopefully they wouldn't change the rules again before I got to the preceptorship. Even if I complete everything I am still at the mercy of the boards whims on approval correct? So how does someone go about getting a preceptorship? I would hate to go through it all and then not be able to even get an "approved preceptorship".
