I have been following the thread for FY 2013 Air Force nursing and realize that many of the clinical nurses, including myself, were made alternates for FY 2014. The only information I have received from my recruiter is that I will find out sometime in April or May if I am selected or not. Has anyone received more detailed information about the upcoming boards? What is the likelihood of selection for us alternates?

I am also interested to hear from anyone currently serving as a clinical nurse in the Air Force who can describe the day-to-day life and current news regarding the nursing specialty. I am 28 years old, have been an acute care RN at a level I facility since 2008, served seven years in the Army National Guard, and am a family man with two children. My wife, also an RN, and I are excited that I am an "alternate" for FY 2014 because it seems likely I will be selected. We have anxieties about active duty because I have never served on active duty.

Okay, I spoke too soon. I found out today too. I'm headed to Dyess AFB in Abilene, TX. Not on my list but I'm excited either way.

Anyone heading or in Keesler? I am supposed to head there and wondering about living arrangements. Trying to see if it would make more sense to live at the base or outside. I have 2 kids and would not mind at all living at the base. That is what I want at the moment but just curious about any info that I might need to know before deciding.

Hello everyone,

It looks like I'm not the only one who received awesome news! I too have been selected for COT in August! No duty station yet. My husband is in the Marine Corps and the recruiter said they were looking into trying to possibly put my in Hawaii with him. I am just thrilled I was selected!

Congrats Bogielea! I hope you're able to stay with your husband. I used to work in Kailua while my husband was stationed there for the Army. Hickam AFB was my first choice for OCONUS. Love it there! Fingers crossed for you!

Thank you JillyRN! I currently live in Kailua on the Marine Corps base. It's beautiful here. I would love to stay but I would go wherever needed by the Air Force. Have you received any paper work from your recruiter?

The only thing I've completed was the letter of acceptance. My original recruiter was in Hawaii but then got switched to a recruiter in Los Angeles. So my new recruiter said he's waiting to receive the rest of my paperwork. Hopefully it rolls right along cause I'm anxious to have orders. Then it might feel real!

Congratulations Bogielea...I hope that arrangement gets to happen. I would not mind being in a base in Hawaii :)
