Hello,
I am in need of advice from RTs. I am hoping to go to Rad tech school in the fall and know its very competitive. I have failed both A&P 1 and 2 but am retaking them for a better grade. Does anyone know if it is possible to get into RT school if they see that you failed classes but took them again to pass? I am at a point where I don't know what to do or who to ask. I have been in school for 4 years and just don't want to have high hopes that I can still get in even if I have failed. Can anyone give me advice on this matter. I would really appreciate it. Thank you!

As this is a website geared towards nurses and nursing students, it is quite possible that no one can answer your question accurately. Have you tried looking for websites geared more towards rad techs or spoken with an admissions advisor at some of the schools you are considering?

It depends on the location of the school and how competitive the market is there. Where I am doing my BSN now you could get on. I am from Los Angeles and you would never get in RT school there.
Maybe you could get in to a for profit school although I would NOT recommend a FOR profit.
I saw that there was rad tech comments on here so I wasnt sure but thanks for letting me know. I have been looking for websites like this but havent had any luck. I have spoken with advisers as well but the response is more of a maybe or you should be fine so I feel like I am at a loss. School is expensive and I am 23 and been in college for 4 years. Right now I am just desperate to talk to someone that knows an answer instead of hearing a maybe or good luck with that.

It really depends on where you are going to school. When I was gonna be a rad tech that would have been fine where I was at, but as someone else said it wouldn't be ok at another school. Can you call and ask someone from the program? They might be the only people who can give you an answer.
Also, as with any competitive program, you are going to hear a lot of "maybe" answers. Because along with any school differences, acceptance also depends on the applicant pool.

Why are you failing? You need to fix that if you are failing the prereqs. If you are failing multiple prereqs I don't think you are ready for any program at all.

You are going to have to talk to the program director of the Rad Tech program you want to get into to get that info. 25 years ago, when Rad Techs weren't a dime a dozen, I got into Rad Tech school after failing out of nursing school. I can tell you that now, at least in the area I live in, it's hard to get into a program and even harder to get a job. The system I work for won't hire a rad tech unless they have passed the registry in two modalities. My husband is a CT tech and a rad tech. His boss is MRI and Rad, most of his co-workers are CT or Nuc med and rad tech. It's very very competitive.
Just curious, but how much do you know about Rad Tech? If you have difficulty with A&P, keep in mind that Rad Tech involves physics. Even if you don't have to take a physics course, there is a lot of physics on the registry. Before you get into this, you might want to find out how the markets is for Rad Techs and trust me, you do NOT want to go to a private program. Rad techs around here are more likely to be hired if they went to a well known, reputable public program.
I wish you the best,
